Underwater photography is awesome fun, addiction , and  much more! There is nothing astonishing like that , and I like  when photographers want to learn more about it. However, it’s also  risky. It takes a second for an accident to happen. Therefore, safety first, please take appropriate training before going into the water. There are following underwater photography basics.

1-Go near to the  object (underwater photography course)

The common problem for new beginners for underwater photographs is that the images look like  dull cyan-grayish hues over them. The brighter colors observed on tropical coral reefs do not show at the top  in their photos  because water absorbs light, therefore  we must minimize the distance between  camera and object in water, to produce a bright, clear, sharp and colorful image.

Five underwater photography tips

One of Important underwater photography basics is to get close to the object as you can write it on your camera and always remember in your mind. There are also very small mili micron size  particles called “black scatter” floating in water, when we take pictures these backscatters impacts on image quality, therefore, minimize the distance of the object and the camera to avoid black scatter in your images.

2-Take Shoot (underwater photography for beginners)

Underwater objects look better when shot taken with an upward angle, shooting down is more natural one. Pictures taken from top as e.g. Swimming with reef below us, these pics are always not appealing, when taking pics we must include water columns in images which can create contrast between object Swimming with reef below us, these pics are always not appealing, when and foreground.

3- Don’t follow the fish

One of the important photography basics Follow fish never a good approach to underwater photography, fish is faster than any swimmer and reach the surface quickly, capturing photos of moving objects never give good results, most of beginner photographer do this and results into bad images on their memory card,. The best approach looks and wait for an object that result into great pictures.

4-Keep eyes on eyes

One of the important Underwater Photography basics Successful photographer tactics hinges on their ability to catch the subject’s eyes in crisp focus. If the eyes do not focus on frame audience attention will lose because humans naturally attract towards eyes.

As we have discussed, water absorbs light  much faster, different wavelength of light absorb at different depth e.g ROYGBIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet water, but), red absorbs at 5 meters, orange 20 meters, green 30 meter blue 60 meters.

Human eyes can adjust the absorption of light in water ,but camera cannot that why image becomes blue, red and dark, the best way to resolve this use artificial lighting buy using underwater strobes.

What are underwater strobes?

Underwater strobes are artificial light guns that compensate for the absorption of  light underwater, without strobe  underwater images are generally plagued with a dull blue hue.

How do we use underwater Strobes?

5-Use correct  lens camera (underwater photography equipment for beginners)

Underwater photography not all lenses give good results, because you are forced to close the object as possible, therefore  the minimum focus distance lens suggested under water.

The underwater photography divided into macro or wide angle lens and extreme wide angle lens, medium range zooms have a minimum focusing distance.

6-Appropriate  Knowledge about Equipment

Underwater environment not friendly learning how to use your gear, you will be more comfortable with how it operates on land, give some time at home to  accustom to your camera, explore and each button on camera that what is the function of each button and when it has to be operated. Whether you are an experienced diver or going first time in the water.
